The Care of Persian Cats

The kittens we know and love today have come a long way
from their original ancestors. Unlike the larger wild cats, domestic
pets are dependent solely on their owner and require lots of care and
attention. Although cats are known for being the most independent of
household pets, they still require responsible feline ownership. In
addition to love and affection, the basic physical requirements must be
met. High-quality commercial food and a considerable supply of fresh
water are necessary for a healthy, well-rounded diet and a long life.
The cleaning of litter pans prevents disease and promotes cleanliness,
and some pampered princes and princesses won’t even touch a dirty box!
Claws, like fingernails, should be kept clean and trimmed frequently. A
scratching post, usually covered in a rough material such as rope, will
provide a place for cats to fulfill the desire to use their claws,
rather than taking it out on the living room sofa. A cat uses its
tongue to clean its coat, and in order to remove loose hair that would
otherwise be swallowed (leading to hairballs and stomach problems), ALL
cats should be brushed weekly, and Persian breeds
specifically require combing about once a day to prevent their long,
soft fur from matting and tangling.
